Mason Day 2011.

Mason Day is the day of the year that George Mason University celebrates itself.  There are carnival rides, popcorn, cotton candy, local band performances, and free stuff everywhere. It lasts all day and into the night when the featured musical guests come out to perform.

It was my first time doing concert photography, and I really enjoyed it.  I have a background in music, so while I'm taking photos, I find myself becoming immersed in the music as well.  I think I might try to do more concerts in the future.

This year, the featured bands were You Hang Up (an alternative rock band, mostly known for their most famous member: Frankie Muniz), and Plain White T's (Wonders of the Younger is their newest album).  Plain White T's are amazing live; lead singer Tom Higgenson secretly found his way to the back of the audience at one point to perform "Hey, There Delilah."  The effect was an intimate/acoustic/café-style moment.  Even on stage, they all had genuine personality that made you feel like you were longtime friends. If you ever have a chance to see them, I highly recommend it.

Meet Rebecca (Becs).

My roommate, Rebecca (or Becs, as I call her), needed headshots for a journalism program she will soon be entering into.  She asked for my help, and of course I obliged!  She got some beautiful headshots (I mean, she's seriously photogenic!), and I got to play with my lights for the first time.  I cannot tell you how excited I was about the lights!  Becs is an amazing model; we managed to stay productive while a group of our friends dropped by and braved the onlookers outside of our apartment while two bright lights shined on her.  As every girl does, we started taking pictures for the sheer sake of taking pictures (as a fellow photographer, Becs had great ideas about creative lighting), even after we had already gotten what we needed.

Check out Rebecca's blog here; she's taking a picture a day for a year!

Cheers to the Beautiful Becs!

Lemons.

This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I spent the day photographing the Eastern Communication Association convention in Arlington, Va.  The days were long, and the people were a bit crazy, but the experience was worth it.  This photograph turned out to be a fairly accurate representation of how I felt during the past three days.

Solemn City Subway.

This past weekend, I went to New York City with Focus Group, the photography organization on campus.  We were on our way to Brooklyn when I saw this street musician playing a sad piece on his violin.  The resounding sounds of the long-lasting notes echoed through the station while everyone waited for the next train to arrive.  It seemed his song echoed the sentiments of those standing in station, as no one paid attention to him; they were standing alone, seemingly lost in their own solemn thoughts.
